Old Dominion Outfitters continues to be one of the highlights of our year for well over a decade and counting. We continue to be blown away by the hospitality, sportsmanship, and professionalism year after year and consider Hanne and Grady to be part of our family. Phenomenal hunting, excellent accommodations at the Ringneck Cathedral, and outstanding meals. For anyone thinking about experiencing the prairies of South Dakota for a pheasant or waterfowl hunt, I highly recommend a trip to Old Dominion as it will NEVER disappoint! L.W. I can't imagine a more spectacular pheasant hunt experience; once again, you've exceeded all expectations! -Tim, Maryland I've headed west to hunt pheasants for more than 40 years, in three different states. Old Dominion Outfitters puts on one of the best hunts you can experience. These folks do there up most to see that your hunt with them is successful and enjoyable. Keep in mind, this is a Wild Bird Hunt, not a canned hunt with pen reared birds. On the hunts I've had with them, we hunted all day. But there were a couple days, over three seasons, we finished early with a group of ten or more. If you'd like a combo hunt, there's a shallow lake on the farm that provides an opportunity for a number of duck species, with light and dark geese also. Grady works hard at putting you in the birds. He walks right with the group and doesn't quit on you. The lodge is a renovated church with all the needed necessities. As for the food, it's the best I've had in all the years I've headed west. Hanne is a gourmet cook and she proves it. Couldn't tell you how many times I heard "this is tremendous" at the dinner table. So, if you're looking for good hunt and a truly Wild Bird experience, these are your folks. -Dave, Michigan. Every one of those expectations were exceeded, from the accommodations which were first class, to the excellent meals provided, to the unbelievable amount of fun hunting the birds. Grady is a great guide always with a good attitude and accomodates youth up to seniors for the hunting parties. Top of the line equipment,blinds and decoys for your enjoyment. His trained working dogs are a pleasure to watch retrieve. I’ve been using Grady Jolley to goose hunt since the early 2000’s and it’s always a great trip. He works very hard to get the geese in and close and as long as we are shooting well – we kill a lot of geese! One of the special aspects of hunting with Grady has been bringing my son along with the hunts since he was 4; and last year my son Grant hunted for the first time and look how well we did. However, we have been disappointed more than once by poor guides. In fact, one duck hunt "guide" dropped us off of his boat in a cold, rugged, wet, tundra and told us to walk toward the East (it was dark by the way) until we found a place to hunt. He took his boat and left as he had double booked hunts and said that he would pick us up at dusk. It was about 25 degrees that day with a 30 mile per hour sustained wind. We obviously did not tip this guy.
Then we found, Mr. Grady Jolley. Grady studies the game, researches the time periods for max hunting opportunity and he stays with you. Typically, when you arrive at a hunt guided by Grady, you will find the hunt site established with decoys, portable blinds, and his expert advice on what to expect and when. Grady will also assist you in calling birds. He has wonderful hunting retrievers as well. Also, Grady has helped me and my friends with ammunition advice, shooting tips, bird calling techniques and gun safety. At least three of the best hunts of my lifetime, were with Grady Jolley. I have hunted with Grady and Hanne many times over the years. You will not find two more sincere people at any lodge. They work hard to make your stay enjoyable and filled with memories. As soon as we arrived, we realized that we were in for a great hunt. The accommodations are second to none. Hanne and Grady are fun to be around and spend time with. They truly care about you and make the effort to create a wonderful experience. Expect to see many birds, eat great food, and to hear some good stories. The guides were very accommodating and entertaining. The food was outstanding and the friendships gained will not be forgotten. The atmosphere is casual and the services are exceptional. I will definitely return in the future.
